Municipalities must ensure access to crisis centres for anyone who requires it. Each municipality must also ensure that the crisis centre meets the requirements set forth in the Crisis Centre Act. The purpose of this Act is to ensure that sufficient aid is available to women, men and children who have been subjected to actual or threatened violence by someone close to them.
The County Governor must supervise municipalities to ensure that they fulfil their obligations as set forth in the provisions of the Crisis Centre Act. Such supervision should focus on the municipality as opposed to individual crisis centres.
- A crisis centre also offers temporary accommodation. This must be free of charge and accessible 24/7, all year round.
- The service must be tailored to meet the needs of each individual user.
- The work of crisis centres must be co-ordinated with other public services and they must offer the user comprehensive follow-ups.
- Anyone who has stayed at a crisis centre must be offered follow-up services once they have moved out.
Under the Crisis Centre Act, municipalities must implement internal checks to ensure that each crisis centre and the activities conducted therein meet the applicable regulatory requirements.
