Forestry

The County Governor’s responsibilities within the field of forestry are linked to the long-term management of forests as a resource enabling profitable commercial operations. In co-operation with other actors, the County Governor is also engaged in efforts to generate more value through the use of timber as a raw material.

The County Governor must be a driving force for the increased use of timber, both as a building material and in the production of bioenergy. Another important objective is helping to ensure that we have an infrastructure that allows for efficient and profitable felling, while at the same time taking account of environmental considerations in the industry. The County Governor offers guidance and assistance to municipalities in areas relating to agricultural roads, forest damage, bioenergy, silviculture and environmental issues. Other areas of activity include the co-ordination of forestry planning in counties, the management of Norway’s Forest Trust Fund, administering funding and carrying out inspections.
